| How does a two-stage air filter work? | |
| When used in the appropriate housing,
incoming air is directed to the top of the fins. The fins cause a
swirling motion of the air and send large particles of dirt to
collection area. Smaller particles of dirt follow air to the
pleated paper media and are trapped there. Some housings are
equipped with a vaculator and automatically eject dirt from the
collection area.
Some housings use a safety or inner element for extreme conditions. The main purpose of the inner element is to prevent dirt from entering the engine when servicing the primary element. The inner element should be replaced every third primary replacement under normal conditions. Do not clean inner elements, they should be replaced when they get dirty.
